Does size really matter? Research may reveal the answer…

While the code is being written and tested for our planned social networking site, I’m chomping at the bit to start marketing in ernest. So I thought I’d toss out a survey to the pre-registrants.
We are wondering how big our fan network will grow. With six million Americans who say the Colts are their favorite team, and 1 million unique visitors to our web site every month, we THINK we will get a fairly decent adoption rate. Perhaps more importantly, we’re wondering if the fans who sign up for the network will actually USE it. Hence the following survey.
Our purpose here is to gain a benchmark for participation levels in the network once it’s launched. We expect we’ll see a lot of fans open up accounts, and maybe even set up their profiles, only to abandon them. Obviously we want to find ways to maximize registration AND participation. We also want to discover the profiles of the most active users of the network. We plan to use the data I collect here and compare it to the actual user activity data we collect over time. I’ll share the results as we go.
Please keep in mind that I am not a trained researcher, so these questions may not give us statistically valid results. Any of you out there with research pedigrees please chime in. What do you think? What am I missing?
