Customers gain control – Part 2

One of my favorite Far Side cartoons goes like this: It’s the Wild West. The frame shows two soldiers defending the wall of a frontier fort while under Indian attack. One solder turns to the other and says (about the Indians), “…they’re lighting their arrows, CAN THEY DO THAT?!”

I was reminded of this cartoon when I read Facebook’s response to the backlash against its new tracking feature

WSJ: “We didn’t expect so much negative feedback,” Facebook spokeswoman Melanie Deitch said yesterday. … “Facebook held an emergency meeting yesterday to plan its response to the backlash. Ms. Deitch said that the new features are “here to stay” but that staffers are discussing possible tweaks to appease users. She wouldn’t say what those changes might be.”

I can only imagine that this is the same reaction that the folks at Maxwell House realized that people actually like good tasting coffee and defected to Starbucks.
